What is Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA)?

ABA is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior.  It can help to reduce maladaptive behaviors and replace them with more socially appropriate behaviors.  At the core of ABA is reinforcement.  Positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement are terms that are common in ABA therapy.  Reinforcement can be anything that is added (positive) or taken away (negative) that will increase the frequency of that behavior in the future.  Applied Behavior Analysis can help improve language and communication skills, attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics, as well as decrease problem behavior.
